I walk the halls with confidence and it shows. . . I like to think that what I am doing will inspire others who may be struggling with their own obstacles and allow them to see that they can absolutely do whatever they set their mind to.

Snapshot Stories Michael Lattimer

It is not enough to say that Michael Latimer is one of our best Elite photographers. While he provides excellent customer experience and delivers amazing senior portraits, what makes Michael extraordinary is that he does it all with just one arm.

Born without his right arm, Michael spent much of his high school career like most of us, self-conscious, and wanting to blend in like everyone else. It was upon entering 7th grade that he made the decision not to wear his prosthetic to school anymore because of the added attention it attracted.

Several years ago, when he decided to take on photography as a hobby, he realized that every camera he saw created for a right-handed operator. He took his search online, and found one company in the US that made a prosthetic attachment designed to hold a small camera, but it didn’t offer the amount of control he felt would be needed.  Michael struggled with this idea for several months before one night realizing that he could make modifications to existing photography equipment already available to create exactly what he needed. His homemade, retrofit attachment allows him to switch from portrait to landscape effortlessly and provides the stability needed to adjust quickly in any setting.

Today, Michael says that he goes into high schools with quite a different attitude than when he attended as a student. “I walk the halls with confidence and it shows. . . I like to think that what I am doing will inspire others who may be struggling with their own obstacles and allow them to see that they can absolutely do whatever they set their mind to.”
