Cady Studios Partners with Duval County School
Cady Studios partnered with Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, FL this fall for the third annual Dreams Come True Tip-Off Classic in efforts to raise money for children with life-threatening diseases.
The Duval County school, who has used Cady as their school photographer for a number of years, began the tournament three years ago as a way for student-athletes to be a part of something bigger than themselves. “Dreams Come True has given our student-athletes a chance to get involved and it is such a great way to unite the community,” County Athletic Director Tammy Talley stated.
Dreams Come True is a local non-profit organization on a mission to “bring hope and joy” to every child battling life-threatening diseases in the Northeastern Florida and Southeastern Georgia regions. Children between the ages of two and a half years to 18 years old are eligible for a dream as “medical professionals have attested that a dream dramatically impacts a child’s attitude and often strengthens a child’s determination to undergo difficult treatment”.
Larry Roziers, Assistant Superintendent of Duval County Schools, first learned of the organization through a school board meeting and has since made it a district staple.Mandarin High School had the goal to raise $625 through fundraisers and sports boosters to contribute to the total goal of $2,500 along with Ed White, Robert E. Lee and Westside High School.
Being that Cady Studios photographs most schools in the Jacksonville area, the company could not turn down a chance to be a part of something greater when given the opportunity to coordinate and design promotional materials. On Saturday, October 22, Cady Studios photographers met with athletes from the Duval County School District to be photographed alongside MiKale Smith, a three-year-old boy who recently defeated his battle with myoblastoma. “The Smith’s were absolutely thrilled to have MiKale be a part of the photoshoot,” said Sheri Criswell, Executive Director of Dreams Come True. “The family was so kind and just so excited to have MiKale supported by so many people that day”.
The basketball tournament, set to begin Tuesday, November 15 through Wednesday, November 16, will bring the four schools together for competition and celebration as they send Dreamer Mikale Smith and his family on an all-expense paid trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. “We are extremely excited to celebrate MiKale,” Talley stated. “What could be better than being healthy, celebrating a birthday and going on a dream vacation with his family?”
