00’s fashion Trends You Totally Missed Out On
1. LAYERED POLO’S + POPPED COLLARS
Time to step out for evening. Let me throw on something that’ll really make me stand out. A button down? Nah. I’ll throw on a polo…or 5. And because I’m feeling good, I’ll pop my collars.” Yep, that was pretty much the mindset of the guy with the popped collar.
There wasn’t a mall without a bling jewelry kiosk. I mean how else were you supposed to keep up with your favorite rappers? “You mean to tell me I can get that $50,000 necklace for only $20? Sold!”
The ultimate party outfit for when you didn’t want to put on a dress. They came in denim or a stretchy cotton/spandex material. You could pair it with some cute platform sandals and a ribbed tank top. Mom’s love gauchos!
4. STUDDED BELTS
Oh Hot Topic. You made me realize that the studded belt is not just for the punk rocker, but it was for me as well. It went with everything. Graphic T’s, button downs and polos. Perfect way to jazz up an outfit.
5. RING WATCHES
“Oh, what’s that? You need to know the time? Let me check my finger.” Who needs a bulky wrist watch when you could simply flick your finger to tell someone it’s a quarter past two? Not everyone had one of these gems so if you had one; you were totally considered a trendsetter.
6. VELOUR TRACK SUITS
These were totally in style before Regina George’s mom wore it. If you had a Baby Phat or Roca Wear velour suit, you were IT! You could go straight from school to the mall all while being stylish. Best part was the bedazzled logos across the back!
7. THESE BLACK STEVE MADDEN SANDALS
They were kind of these platform, foam, stretchy, slide sandals that said, “Hey I’m being practical yet sassy with my footwear here. I’d like to have fun today but I’m not ready to party. I just want to look cute and have a nice toe breeze.” These go perfect with gauchos BTW.
8. Scrunchie Shirts
The epitome of one-size fits all, this shirt pretty much goes from a XXS to a medium in moments. Literally. They came in all these cool ombre-esque assorted colors and when you take it off, it shrinks back down. Perfect for hamper throwing.
9. Shutter Shades
Oh, Kanye. You’ve done it again. I can now step out and look good in my mini blind eyewear. The awesome thing about these was that, you could kind of see out, but no one could really see in. And they were always on sale at 7-11.
10. TRUCKER HATS
So I suppose truck drivers were the originators of this trend and one day someone cool saw it and said, “You know what? I want to wear that hat. Sure it’s was advertising a motel in Montana but you even have a shirt that matched it.” And it was on from there! Thanks Ashton Kutcher.
